legend,

Born

August
23,
1978,
in
Philadelphia,
Kobe
was
the
son

He
started
playing
basketball
at
the
age
of
three
and
by
the

he

he
had

Merion
High
School
in
Pennsylvania,
where
he
quickly
made

name

himself

was

drafted

school
in
1996
by
the
Charlotte
Hornets,
but
he
was
soon
traded
to
the
Los
Angeles
Lakers,
where
he

his
entire
20-year
career. Kobe
was
known
for
his

ethic,
his
competitive
spirit,
and
his
desire
to
be
the
best.
He
won
five
NBA
championships,
two
Olympic
gold
medals,
and
countless
individual
awards
during
his
career.
But
Kobe's
legacy
goes
beyond
basketball.
He
was
a
loving
father,
a
mentor
to
young
players,
an
advocate
for
women's
basketball,
and
a
philanthropist. In
2018,
Kobe
won
an
Academy
Award
for
his
short
film
"Dear
Basketball,"
which
was
based
on
a
poem
he
wrote
when
he
announced
his
retirement
from
basketball.
The
film
showcased
Kobe's
talent
as
a
storyteller
and
his
passion
for
the
game
of
basketball. Tragically,
Kobe,
along
with
his
daughter
Gianna
and
seven
others,
died
in
a
helicopter
crash
on
January
26,
2020.
The
world
mourned
the
loss
of
a
true
legend,
but
his
legacy
continues
to
inspire
future
generations.
His

Mentality"

hard
