My
Simple
Japanese
Nickname
-
Kae
My
Japanese
nickname
is
Kae
(かえ),
which
means
"change".
It
was
given
to
me
by
some
Japanese
friends
during
my
stay
in
Japan.
I
like
the
name
because
it's
simple
and
easy

remember,
just
like
me!
As
a
Japanese
learner,
I
find
it
fascinating
how
Japanese
names
can
have
meanings
and
how
they
are
formed.
Unlike
in
some
other
cultures,
where
names
are
chosen
based
on
family
traditions
or
religious
beliefs,
Japanese
names
are
often
chosen
based
on
the
meaning
of
the
characters
used
to
write
them.
In
my
case,
the
characters
used
to
write
Kae
are
"ka"
(変)
and
"e"
(え).
The
first
character,
"ka",
means
"change",
while
the
second
one,
"e",
is
just
a
sound.
So,
my
nickname
is
literally
"change-sound".
I
think
it's
a
cool
name
and
I
like
the
meaning
behind
it
because
it
reminds
me
to
always
keep
an
open
mind
and
be
willing
to
adapt
to
new
situations.
When
I
introduce
myself
to
Japanese
people,
they
often
ask
me
what
my
nickname
is,
and
I
love
saying
"Kae"
because
it
usually
gets
a
reaction.
They
often
say
that
it's
a
unique
name,
and
I
feel
proud
of
it.
Overall,
I'm
happy
with
my
Japanese
nickname
because
it
feels
like
it's
part
of
my
identity
now.
Whenever
I
see
or
hear
the
word
"Kae",
it
reminds
me
of
my
time
in
Japan
and
the
friendships
I
made
there.
It's
a
simple
name,
but
it
holds
a
special
place
in
my
heart.
