name
is
Sophia
and
I
am
a
proud
and
happy
mixed-race
girl.
My
mother
is
from
France
and
my
father
is
from
Ghana.
Growing
up,
I
was
always
fascinated
by
my
diverse
background
and
I
loved
learning
about
both
of
my
cultures. One
of
my
favorite
things
about
having
a
multicultural
background
is
that
I
am
able
to
speak
both
French
and
English
fluently.
I
have
also
been
studying
Twi,
one
of
the
many
languages
spoken
in
Ghana,
which
is
the
native
language
of
my
father's
family.
I
take
pride
in
being
able
to
communicate
with
my
family
members
in
their
native
tongue,
and
they
are
always
amazed
by
my
progress. One
of
the
challenges
that
I
have
faced
growing
up
as
a
mixed-race
girl
is
that
people
often
make
assumptions
about
me
based
on
my
appearance.
Some
people
assume
that
I
am
not
fluent
in
English,
or
that
I
cannot
speak
French
properly.
Others
assume
that
I
am
supposed
to
act
a
certain
way,
or
that
I
have
a
certain
preference
for
one
side
of
my
cultural
background
over
the
other. However,
I
refuse
to
let
these
assumptions
define
me.
Instead,
I
embrace
my
identity
as
a
mixed-race
girl
and
celebrate

unique
combination
of
cultures
that
make
me
who
I
am.
I
wear
my
traditional
West
African
clothing
with
pride,
and
I
also
love
to
wear
the
latest
fashions
from
France.
I
listen
to
music
from
both
cultures,
dance
to
both
kinds
of
music,
and
enjoy
all
sorts
of
food
from
both
countries. Despite
some
of
the
challenges
that
come
with
being
a
mixed-race
girl,
I
am
grateful
for
my
upbringing.
I
have
been
exposed
to
so
many
different
perspectives,
languages,
and
ways
of
life,
and
it
has
truly
enriched
my
life.
I
hope
that
one
day,
more
people
will
come
to
understand
and
appreciate
the
beauty
of
being
multicultural,
and
that
we
can
all
learn
to
embrace
our
differences
and
celebrate
them
together.
